Dominico and Anna Roberto immigrated to America from southern Italy in 1920. The United States Congress passed the Immigration Act of 1924, which favored northern Europeans, and the flow of Italians and other less desirable nationalities to America was effectively halted. My grandfather Dominico loved this country so much, he changed his first name to Americo. One of their sons was elected to the Ohio Senate where he worked to improve equity and education.
Also pictured on the family farm is my Aunt Mary, the youngest of their nine children. Mary currently resides in Central Ohio. I used a black and white reference photo from 1943 as inspiration for this painting.

Duck dawn. The Outer Banks of North Carolina is simply one of the most beautiful places on Earth. When we have an opportuity
to visit, I like to get up early while the stars are still out and take a long walk on the beach as the sun rises. It never disappoints.
